Take a Deep Breath, Lose the Fear, and Claim Your Power

Fear is an energy that vibrates strongest in the root chakra. The root chakra is located at the base of the spine, the pelvic floor, and the first three vertebrae.  When the root chakra is in balance, you feel secure and stable. Then when out of balance, you feel insecure, unsettled and fearful. When fear settles into your daily life, it causes accelerated breathing, heart rate, anxiety, sleeplessness and holding patterns in decision making. If there is a constant root chakra imbalance, your body stores these feelings, causing a slowing down of life force (vitality and energy) and build up of energetic debris. 

Breathing creates a conscious shift to break through energetic debris.  

Your breath is a powerful tool that can shift you out of fear and into an empowered state of mind. Breathing deeply, completely and consciously, your mind shifts to the present moment and your body recognizes the shift in energy. Your body then begins the activation of the parasympathetic nervous system, the part of your body that is opposite to flight, fight or freeze. Breathing deeply calms your body, which in turn calms your mind. Feeling calm, you have a sense of empowerment, are less reactionary, and can make clear decisions. 

Breathing is a quick and easy! 

Feeling anxious? Try this quick and easy breathing technique to stabilize the energies disrupting your root chakra:

Find a comfortable spot and take a slow deep inhale through the nose, filling the lungs. Pause at the top of the breath. Then exhale out through the mouth as if you are fogging up a mirror. Repeat with another deep inhale, filling the lungs. Next, as you take a long, deliberate exhale visualize the breath moving down your body, through your legs, and into the ground. Repeat again, as if your breath is washing over you and pouring into the Earth.

In connecting into your breath, you connect to the security of the present moment. By visualizing your breath moving downwards, you are connecting to the sturdiness of the ground underneath you. This breath is known as Apana pranayama. Breathe through a few more cycles until you feel calm and stable. In the span of one breath, you can shift your energy from that of a habitual response of fear to that of an empowered mindset in the present moment.
